Payment splits and deposits

settings payment split

You can choose the amount your customers have to pay when booking.

A typical example of this would be to allow the customer to make a down payment of 20% of the rental sum to create the booking and have them pay the rest upon the rental start.

You can set this up in

Settings -> Payment -> Split payment amounts

https://app.rentware.io/settings/payment

Here you find a “Default amount,” which would usually be 100%. This alone would mean that the customers always have to pay 100% when booking.

You can add optional amounts by clicking on the add button.

One such optional amount could for example be 20%.

So with a setup, like this:

The customer gets the following payment options (both excluding deposit):

If they choose to make the 20% down payment, the rest can still be paid later via the booking page. On that page, the customer can always pay outstanding amounts using the same online payment methods as previously defined.

Within the Split payment amounts, you find the input field “Down payment allowed from:”.

Here you can enter an amount, which defines the rental sum that needs to be reached in order to allow the optional payment splits.

This is used to only allow down payments when the booking has reached a sufficient size.

With this, you could, for example, set up that amounts below 200€ have to be paid in full, whereas bookings that exceed this amount can be secured by making a down payment.

Additionally, you can click on “+ Add per method split” to define specific payment amounts for certain payment methods. With this, you could, for example, say that with the payment method credit card, you always have to pay 50% of the rental sum.

Deposits

It is generally recommended to handle the deposits on-site and not via online payments. The reason for this is that payment providers don’t fully distinguish between actual rental sums and deposits. So the payment fees would apply to both, even though the deposit is usually returned to the customer after the booking.
